Pectoral Implants

When guys put a lot of time, sweat and effort into their workout to build their body and define their physique, it can be frustrating to not get the results you'd like to see. Not all body types will develop the large, sculpted, firm pectorals that are so desirable in a balanced physique. For those who take their looks very seriously, pectoral implants is a way to get the body shape they want. Despite what you might think, pectoral implants are not just for models and bodybuilders. Average, everyday men are getting pectoral implants in order to define their appearance to their satisfaction.

When you are considering getting pectoral implants, keep in mind that this is major cosmetic surgery, and you should make sure that you have done considerable research to find the right surgeon who has experience in doing pectoral implants, and who you can communicate clearly with. A good surgeon will sit down with you during a consultation and show you before and after pictures from some of his or her previous patients, they will answer any questions you might have about the procedure and advise you how you should prepare for the surgery. They will tell you what to expect from the surgical procedure and how to handle the recovery period. Before you sit down with your prospective surgeon be sure that you have brought your questions with you and that you have done your homework in advance.

Pectoral implants are made from solid silicone which is both firm and pliable. The implant is placed beneath the pectoral muscle, and it will improve the size of your chest, but it will not give the look of muscle definition. The only way to show improved muscle definition is to work out with weights. During your consultation, your doctor will measure your chest and find the perfect implant for your size.

After surgery, your chest will be wrapped in a compression bandage to help it to heal and reduce the swelling. Recovery time varies, but any hard, physical labor should be avoided for several weeks. Your doctor will let you know when you are clear to return to strenuous activities and to working out in the gym.

Some of the possible risks and complications from getting pectoral implants include the risk of infection, excessive bruising, numbness and loss of sensation, displacement of the implant, reaction to the anesthetic, muscle weakness, swelling and scarring.

During recovery you must not expose the scars to sunlight or even to a tanning bed for several weeks after surgery because these sensitive areas can easily burn. It's safest to wait anywhere from three to six months, but your doctor will advise you on this as well.

Pectoral implants are a cosmetic surgery procedure, so they are not covered by health insurance. When you have your initial consultation with your doctor you can discuss payment and financing options at that time.
