Neck Lift
A neck lift is a group of cosmetic procedures that are done to improve the appearance of the neck. Neck lifts typically correct the loose, hanging skin around the lower neck, excess fat deposits that give that "double chin" appearance, and excess skin that might be a by-product of a big weight loss.
A neck lift & lower face lift can often be combined in the same surgery depending on the patient's desired results. Also, a full face and neck lift can be performed.
Neck lift surgery can include procedures such as liposuction, cervicoplasty, and platysmaplasty. The liposuction removes the excess fat deposits, the cervicoplasty removes excess skin around the neck, and platysmaplasty is performed to remove the lumpy, banded folds of skin on the neck.
During your pre-operative interview, your doctor will tell you what foods and drugs to abstain from prior to surgery. It is important to follow your doctors orders so that you can have the best outcome possible for your surgery.
Recovery from neck and face lift can take two weeks or more, but most people can get back to work and their regular daily routine within ten to 14 days. Neck lift recovery time varies depending on the procedures that were done, but some patients may experience bruising and swelling, and your doctor may prescribe antibiotics and pain medications. Patients may not see the final neck lift results until three to six months after the surgery.
Some common neck lift complications can include infection, scar tissue build-up, bruising and other adverse effects. Patients should keep an eye on their temperature and report to their doctor if they should develop a fever during the recovery period.
Surgeons have developed methods for hiding neck lift scars, and although it is not really possible to have a neck lift that is scarless, there are several non-surgical neck lift procedures that can be done. Non surgical neck lift results may not last as long as surgical methods, but they are less invasive and less costly.
A neck and face lift can cost a lot of money, and these procedures are typically not covered by health insurance. If the cost of a neck lift is more than you can afford, you might ask your surgeon if he has a payment plan.
When the effects of gravity and age begin to show up and loosen the skin under the chin, a neck lift can give your appearance a youthful-looking boost.
