Cosmetic Surgery

Our culture has an abiding fascination with youth. For many, a youthful, trim, fit appearance is desirable. As we grow older and our good looks begin to fade, gravity and environment begin to take their toll on our bodies and skin, and we may be adding a few extra pounds of weight each year to our spreading midsections. When we want to look younger, many people will turn to cosmetic surgery to give our looks a boost. Whether it be a nose job, or an eyelid lift or a total body lift, we willingly go under the surgical knife if it means that we will look better and therefore feel better about ourselves.

The cosmetic surgery industry has been growing exponentially in recent years. In 2003 in the U.S. there were over 8 million cosmetic surgery procedures performed. This reflects an over 30 percent increase over the previous year's figures.

Some of the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures were nose jobs, liposuction, breast augmentation, eyelid lifts, and facelifts.

Botox injections led the way with close to three million treatments, other popular non-surgical procedures include chemical peels, microdermabrasion treatments, laser hair removal, and collagen injections. Women are still the largest consumers of cosmetic surgical procedures with over 85% of cosmetic surgery patients being female.

Cosmetic surgery is almost always an elective procedure, therefore, these operations are not generally covered by health insurance. Surgery can be very expensive, and patients must pay for it out of their own pockets. Fortunately, most cosmetic surgery practices offer many financing options to help their patients spread the cost of the surgery over several months or years.

Because surgery always has its risks it makes sense for prospective patients to do lots of research and due diligence in finding a good cosmetic surgeon to take care of them. Some people even end up traveling to a different part of the country to gain access to better cosmetic surgeons.

Whether it’s for a face lift, a breast augmentation, liposuction, or a butt lift, women are turning to cosmetic surgery to change their appearance.

For both men and women who are morbidly obese, there are several different kinds of weight loss surgery that can help them to not only lose the weight, but also lower their risk factors for several diseases.

Often even after we have lost weight, there are still areas that have cellulite. There are many non-surgical procedures such as Mesotherapy, Endermologie and laser treatments that will help to greatly diminish the appearance of cellulite.

For aging skin, chemical peels, dermabrasion, laser treatments and Thermage help to restore a firmer, more youthful look to the skin.

Any surgical procedure has risks and its important for patients to discuss all of the possible risks and complications with their doctor so that they can go into the procedure with full knowledge of what might occur.

For people who are looking to make a change to their appearance, cosmetic surgery provides several options for every part of the body.
